Ok, I admit it, I’ve been guilty of being an energy sponge. I have hit all the Reiki shares I could find, taken dozens of classes, achieved a wall full of certifications and become attuned to every energy frequency my intuition guided me to.
I channel energy to myself to start my day and to end my day and I send energy to anyone who asks.
Spending all that time in those higher frequency spaces makes me feel like I belong…like I’m home.
So, what is energy? According to API.org, “The short answer: it’s the driving force of life.” A much longer answer involves way more science than my little writing piece warrants, but the word Energy actually is referring to a unit of measurement.
Light is a form or energy.
Prithwiraj-Debbarma, MS of Indera Ghandi National University explains that, “The kinetic energy of electrons flowing between atoms is electricity. Electromagnetic (EM) radiation is a form of energy that is all around us and takes many forms such as radio waves, microwaves, Infra Red waves, Light, Ultra Violet rays, X-rays and gamma rays. … Light from the Sun is all around us.”
But, the type of energy I’m talking about is the energy we have within us and all around us, our Biofield. This is the energy that animates us, brings us to life. In other cultures it’s known as Ki, Qi, Prana or Chi.
Integrative health expert, Taz Bhatia, MD, explains that “Chi is the energy current that runs through our bodies…Chi was thought to be the life force and ultimate measure of one’s vitality.”
David Frawley, in his article Understanding Prana he wrote for Yoga International, states that “Prana has many levels of meaning, from the physical breath to the energy of consciousness itself. Prana is not only the basic life-force, it is the original creative power. It is the master form of all energy working at every level of our being.”
“Chinese philosophy calls this vital energy Qi and describes it as the body’s innate intelligence — the intangible yet measurable way we maintain what’s known as homeostasis, or the body’s ability to regulate its internal environment to create good health,” from Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, Dr. Jill Blakeway.
The Medical-Dictionary defines Biofield as: Subtle energy fields that permeate the living body.
According to scientists Beverly Rubik, PhD, David Muehsam, PhD and Shamini Jain, PhD “The term Biofield fills the need for a unifying concept to bridge traditional and contemporary explanatory models of energy medicine and provides a common language for aspects of both clinical practice and scientific research that focus on energy fields of the body.”
Through all of my years of study and practice I’ve found Energy really is an experiential thing, and because each person’s individual experiences are different, even if I quoted all of the sciency data I could find it wouldn’t mean much to the non-sciency person (that’s most of us).
But, hopefully you now have at least a vague idea of what I mean when I say Energy or Biofield, so let me tell you why experiencing a session is so awesome.
1. It’s Relaxing – whether you go to a practitioner who uses hands-on or non-touching, experiencing energy work can turn even your most frazzled nerves to smooth, soft kitten fur.
2. It’s Freeing – the goal of energy work is to balance your energy system and to do this it’s important to first help you release anything blocking your natural flow. Once you release these energy blocks it can feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off your shoulders.
3. It’s Strengthening – After your energy blocks are released the practitioner balances your energy system, allowing for an equilibrium to occur which empowers the flow of energy to move more steadily, and can provide for a sense of increased inner strength. It can feel like your inner superhero is waking up.
4. It’s Happiness – just like being in good physical health feels good, being is good energetic health feels good…actually, it feels great! It’s as if your batteries have been recharged. It’s truly difficult to be unhappy with a strong, healthy Biofield. It’s like trying to be sad while you’re filled with sunshine.
5. It’s Contagious– we exchange energy with each other as a natural part of life. This is why it’s so important to keep our energy systems healthy and strong.
We, mostly unconsciously, influence others with our energy, and since the strongest energy in the room has the most influence, it’s imperative that the strongest energy be healthy energy.
We’ve all seen one negative person bring down a whole room of people and one positive person cheer up a whole room of people. The influencer’s energy has a lot to do with that.
Being down or negative and being up or positive isn’t just about what we hold in our thoughts. Our physical, mental and energetic systems aren’t unconnected entities, they are in synergy, working together. Each system influences the others within us…and extends out to influence those around us.
So please, take good care of your physical health, your mental health and your energetic health…for all of our highest good.
