This word, Equality, has so many meanings to so many people…it’s a very personal word. For many it ushers in memories of prejudice or chauvinism. For optimists it paints the hopeful canvas of the future. For me it’s an oxymoron…well, maybe more of an impossibility. Oh, I can hear the huff building so before you puff your way right off this page let me explain.
This incredible, vast universe we live in is completely filled with not a single, solitary exact thing. Oh, it may look the same, feel the same, taste the same, smell the same, etc., but, I assure you, it is not 100% exactly the same. So, by the very nature of the universe all things are not created equal. (Unless you break it down into energy, and even then…but, that’s a different post for another day.)
Since everything/everyone is not exactly equal, even if we were to act or react exactly equally to each event or person it couldn’t be received equally. (You may need to let that pucolate a minute.)
However, we can treat every event or person Fairly to the best of our ability. Fairness provides for individuality while showing respect and appreciation.
I suggest we change our goal from creating Equality to creating Fairquality!
So, if two people have held the same job at the same company and provide a reasonably similar amount and quality of work they should be paid a reasonably similar amount of pay. Fairquality!
Let’s say a younger person and an older person both apply for a loan with reasonably similar income, assets, debts and credit score, they should receive a reasonably similar loan. Fairquality!
I don’t suggest the two workers have to be paid at the exact same rate, one may be slightly better at a portion of the job that earns the company more money, therefore, they are a slightly better asset to the comany and should be paid slightly more…in concert with the amount of extra value they provide.
Fairquality!
Many of us agree regardless of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age there should be no descrimination, but expecting a precise equality is unrealistic, and frankly, something the Universe is unable to manifest. But, everyone can treat everyone fairly!
